Game controllers have come a long way. In the late seventies and eighties, controllers for video games consoles had maximum six buttons. But in the last two decades, the number of buttons on game pads has increased significantly. Now Cliff Bleszinski has stated that he wants to fewer buttons on the next Xbox controller.
While speaking with gaming news site CVG about Gears of War 2 multiplayer, Cliff Bleszinski explained,
“I hope if there’s a new Xbox that there’ll be fewer buttons on the
controller. This is purely me speculating in my own realm of game
development, but if you look at a controller right now it looks like an
alien spaceship.”
But Cliffy B is of the view that they could put in other things such
as a little motion sensitivity or a built-in camera. He gave the
example of the Nintendo Wii controller, which has less buttons, and
explained that games like Super Mario Galaxy and Zak and Wiki have used
it in a nice way.
