Though it’s been nearly two years since Sony has released the PlayStation 3, its predecessor, the PlayStation 2 is still going strong. Last year, they also launched a newly designed PS2. Now ET is reporting that Sony would be launching the ‘fourth version’ of PS2 in the Indian and European markets later this year.
Atindriya Bose is the SCE Country Manager for PlayStation in India. He explained that the new PS2 model will be launched simultaneously in India as well as Europe by Diwali 2008. It will not only be sleeker and slimmer than the earlier model but will also have suave looks. This PlayStation 2 will feature in-built AC adapter. But there will not be any change in the prices as it will cost the same, i.e. Rs. 6,990.
Atindriya Bose also spoke about the PlayStation Network and informed that it will be launched by the end of this fiscal. He also said a few words about the impact of PS2 in India. Bose said, “The PlayStation Network is ready for India. It is only the integration of the payment gateway that needs to be done… PS-2 is an entry-level console, which helps first timers to enter the gaming zone.”
The PlayStation head in India said that the PlayStation 2 has the potential to break in further into the Indian and Russian markets and feels that console gaming is at a nascent stage in India but these markets are untapped. Well, it is a nice thing that Sony will be releasing a ‘new’ PS2 in India but lets hope they further decrease the prices.
